Bernardo Bellotto (1721–1780) was an Italian urban landscape painter, or vedutista, and a nephew of the renowned Canaletto. He was known for his highly detailed, almost photographic depictions of European cities, which combined meticulous architectural accuracy with a luminous sense of atmosphere. View of the Grand Canal, Santa Maria della Salute and the Dogana from... is a stunning example of his work. It captures a well-known view of Venice with a masterful sense of light and shadow, highlighting the architectural grandeur and the bustling activity of the city with a powerful sense of clarity.
